The complete app for equine yard management

Can tech help us be better guardians of horses?

Horse welfare is a hot topic at the moment and rightly so. Horses and ponies rely on us to provide them with the best and most appropriate care we can. Wild horses were perfectly capable of caring for themselves, but because of the way we have bred today’s horses, our domesticated equines would struggle in the wild and we now need to care for them accordingly. Horses and ponies need our help to provide them with the friends, freedom of movement and forage that they need to live happy and healthy lives.

Our relationship with horses started around 6,000 years ago and since then horses have played a valuable role as faithful companions and co-workers. Over the centuries, horses and ponies have provided transport; worked alongside us in agriculture, industry and mining; helped us in wartime and delivered vital news, communications and the mail. Domesticating horses has been very beneficial to humans, but it has meant that horses have come to rely on us for their survival and day to day comfort.

It is interesting to think how our relationship with horses has changed. Centuries ago we used to saddle horses and ride them to where we wanted to go, or we could harness them to carriages for longer journeys and until 1908 we still had the horse-drawn hansom cab taxis, but now we prefer to load our pony friends into horseboxes and onto trailers and drive them around instead!

Caring for horses and ponies can be a full-time job. Whether you work at a yard or have your horse on livery, there is so much to think about: daily care can be complicated enough and any changes to the normal routine need additional thought and consideration.

There are lots of things to think about when caring for our equine friends. Are they up to date with their vaccinations? When did they last see the dentist? Does the insurance still cover their current activities? Do we know for certain who their field buddies are? And moving yards can be a stressful time for horses, their owners and the new yard team. It can be difficult enough to look after horses you know and new horses take time to understand; they all have their unique quirks and personalities – that’s why we love them.

LIVERYLive – the complete app for equine yard management, can help make sure that care regimes are clear and nothing is left to chance. With LIVERYLive, the yard team know everything they need to know about your horse from day one, removing the need for guesswork. Everything is recorded on the app, so feed and feeding regimes will be correct and consistent; health records will be up to date and exercise requirements all recorded in one place for everyone involved with the care of the horse to see.

LIVERYLive makes sure horses and ponies get the care that is right for them. Individual horse data can be checked and updated at any time, so horse owners can relax, knowing that their horse is receiving the care they deserve and the yard team can be confident that the care they are giving meets the owner’s expectations.
