Yard snapshot:
Acton Hall is a large livery yard in Staffordshire with around 50 horses on a mix of full and DIY with services. Acton Hall also offers park and ride, arena hires and a small shop with an extensive website selling equestrian products and a click and collect feed store.
What do you love most about running a yard?
I have been running the yard for over 17 years. I still love the freedom of being able to own our horses and be part of the countryside
What are the values or principles you try to run your yard by?
Horse ownership is meant to be fun and a livery yard should be a peaceful retreat for owners to escape their own working life. Livery yard owners should make horse ownership easy and enable them to enjoy their horses. I encourage a kind community; bitching is not tolerated and we all support and champion each other. I am always available for advice if asked, I will not micro manage and I do not get involved unless it is a welfare issue for the horse. The key is ensuring we have professional people offering a good service.

I had been looking for an app or programme for a long time and had trialled quite a few. None were entirely suitable for a livery yard, as much of the detail was irrelevant or not cloud-based. Then came LiveryLive, we were undergoing a big staff change at the time so it seemed ideal timing to change our software and administration. What’s the biggest benefit LIVERYLive has brought to your yard?
LiveryLive has saved loads of time and put the horse owners in charge of their own requests. It makes life easy for the staff to know what to do and ensures the liveries don’t have to know what staff members are in etc. All liveries add requests to the To-Do list and this is our bible. Also the distribution of bedding and the ease of it all going straight on their bill is just brilliant
What would you tell other yard owners thinking about using LiveryLive?
Go for it. It’s easy to set up and add the things you get requested to do now. Makes the switch simpler for everyone to understand.
